What Is Presbytery?
Presbytery is that holy and consecrated session where Jesus the Prophet, through the ministry of the laying on of hands and prophecy, speaks His will and counsel into your life through His servants, the Prophets. This manifestation of the Spirit of God comes to strengthen and impart the Word of the Lord to the Body of believers, as well as impart and stir up the latent gifts of God that have been placed within you from your mother’s womb. The presbyters, those who are administering the Word of the Lord and laying hands, should be individuals of high moral standards, holiness and integrity. Their lives should demonstrate a pure flow of the prophetic gift to bring the revelation that will thrust the hearer into levels of faith, expectation, correction and maturity through the Word of the Lord.
When one is receiving prophetic ministry through presbytery, one should maintain an attitude of worship and a heart of expectation that God is going to speak. One should not approach the Prophets with a predetermined agenda, expecting God to speak concerning what you desire Him to say. God may speak the unexpected or speak to your potential, rather than to your experience. God may speak the unexpected and speak to the blossoming of purpose in a new degree. The presbytery session may or may not address areas that you would rather not discuss, but the Spirit of God is a Gentleman; and will not embarrass anyone for the sake of public ridicule. Correction may come to thrust you into greater revelation and deeper experience through His visitation via the prophetic word. One should be ready to hear what the Spirit of the Lord is saying and receive His impartation of life.
One should make every effort to record and transcribe the Word of the Lord, since human memory requires continuous repetition to retain information. In the Old Testament, the ministry of the scribes recorded the prophetic word and archives were developed. We are blessed in this dispensation to have audiovisual equipment that enables us to continue the practice of assembling chronicles of God’s intentions concerning our lives. It is a point of responsibility upon the hearer to make sure that the richness and importance of the prophetic word is not taken lightly, but valued and kept as a tangible memorial of God’s visitation into your life.
